Study of Man colt CHIEFLAND finishes a very creditable fourth for Liberty Racing 2024 Gold at Paris-Longchamp.
Following a two-month break after his fantastic second-place finish in the IDEE 157th German Derby (Gr. 1), CHIEFLAND – racing for Liberty Racing 2024 Gold – travelled to the neighbouring country today to take on the local competition in his age group. Ridden by Christian Demuro, Henk Grewe’s protégé lined up in the €119,00 Gr.2 Qatar Prix Niel over 2,400 metres, where the son of Study of Man ran a superb race – despite a somewhat unlucky trip. In the small but select field, he made his way along the inside rail into the long home straight at Paris-Longchamp, where Demuro struggled to find a gap for a long time. When the pair finally found space two furlongs from the finish line, CHIEFLAND charged on powerfully and snatched fourth place. In doing so, he left this year’s third-placed finisher in the Prix du Jockey Club (Gr.1), Montreal, and the winner of the Irish Derby, Benvenuto Cellini, behind him and put in a truly magnificent performance overall.
