A small but select first crop of foals convinces breeders and has Fanta fans celebrate.
Liberty Racing was founded by Lars-Wilhelm Baumgarten and Nadine Siepmann in 2020. Just three years later, FANTASTIC MOON made the dream come true that the founding couple had set out to achieve together with the first syndicate partners: A Derby win. The Sea The Moon son would certainly have remained the flagship of Liberty Racing for all time, even without a career as a stallion — but this year he is also carrying the label of the successful brand further into the world as a sire. And quite visibly so, as his first crop proves.
A small but very select group of foals is currently turning heads, as the first offspring of FANTASTIC MOON are making an excellent impression. Feedback from breeders is unanimously positive and hopeful for the future, since it is immediately apparent that the stallion stamps his stock strongly. The progeny are very much in his image: compact, strong, balanced and alert.
Among the offspring are highly interesting products from currently successful dam lines, such as a filly out of the Ebbesloh-bred mare SCONSET. The Soldier Hollow daughter, herself a winner of the Hamburg Stutenpreis (Gr.3), produced with her first foal this year's Gr.3 Schwarzgold winner Santa Catarina, who is considered among the favourites for the Gr.1 Henkel-Preis der Diana.
Lars-Wilhelm Baumgarten's MORNING MIST (Peintre Celebre) produced a colt named MAPLE LEAF, making him a brother to Gr.1 German Oaks winner Muskoka, who is by Fantastic Moon's sire Sea The Moon. For the Liberty Breeding 2023 breeding syndicate, the Karlshof-bred Samum mare ABADAN foaled a colt who is already catching all eyes. Trainer Sarah Steinberg is delighted with a filly named SALISH SEA, the first foal of the Tai Chi daughter Skathi, a sister to the Gr.3-placed Scapina.
Below is a brief visual impression of the first crop of 2023 Horse of the Year, FANTASTIC MOON.
