Teofilo colt breaks maiden over Derby distance and has eyes set on Hamburg.
ABACUS broke his maiden in great fashion in Baden-Baden today. Ridden by René Piechulek, the Teofilo colt presented himself in excellent form and had the field well under control throughout the opening race of the Tattersalls Grand Prix (Gr. 2) meeting. In close contact with the leaders right from the start, Piechulek's hands remained steady for a long time as they approached the home straight, whilst his rivals had already begun to make their move. Once asked, ABACUS responded with a powerful burst of speed, gradually pulling clear and, after 2,400 metres, secured his first career victory by a neck advantage. The shareholders of Liberty Racing 2024 Platin could therefore travel to Hamburg with two horses, as - like KAIROS - the colt is entered for the 157th IDEE German Derby. However, he could also race in one of the high-prized auction races.
