Hamburg, here we come! CHIEFLAND secures Derby ticket with confident win in Derby Trial

CHIEFLAND competed in today’s MERKUR SPIELBANKEN Derby Trial at Düsseldorf’s racecourse to secure his place in this year’s 157th German Derby. After 2,200 metres, the Study of Man colt and the Liberty Racing 2024 Gold syndicate were able to celebrate: Hamburg, here we come!

The Henk Grewe-trained colt cruised to a convincing victory in the €30,000 Listed race with Leon Wolff on board. Wolff settled the colt close to the lead and gave him a quiet trip on the outside. Reaching the final straight, CHIEFLAND kicked away with a great turn of foot and drew clear with relative ease to secure his second win from three starts by a margin of one and a quarter lengths. The Irish bred colt thus earned the coveted Black Type status and kept Liberty Racing’s Derby dream very much alive.
